Connections to "The Kite Runner"
In the novel there are many events that take place in present day Afganistan I will provide you with examples and compare and contrast "The Kite Runner" and Afganistan.
"The Kite Runner" takes place in a city by the name of Kabul which was very prosperous and wealthy until the Taliban takes over. The Taliban displayed violence in the novel and today they are still very violent and controlling, they want to be in control and have power over Afganistan. "Maryam and a older woman wearing a brown hijag were speaking in low voices" (Hosseini 235). A hijag is worn to cover womens faces and for privacy since the Taliban do not believe women should talk loud or reveal skin. In the novel Hassans mother was whipped for raising her voice. The Taliban deprives women from their rights.

What different ethnic groups mean:
"In the end, I was Pashtun and he was a Hazara" (Hosseni 25). There was alot of conflict in Afganistan and in the novel about what ethnicity you were from. Many kids taughted Hassan because of his background and what religion he believed in. It is really unfair to judge someone off of their beliefs and it is sad to say that it takes place in America and Afganistan today. Below I am going to provide facts about the two different ethnic/ religious groups.
Pashtun-Largest and most powerful ethnic group
-Pashtu is their native languange -Make up approximately 42%, just under half the population -Mainly consist of Sunni Muslims -Orginated from an eastern Iranian tribe |
Hazara

More quotes from "The Kite Runner"
1.) "What was the old saying about the bad penny? My past was like that, always
turning up" (Hosseni 281).
Hassan means that penny's are always seen on the ground and just noticeable, his past was the same it always haunted him.
2.) "It always hurts more to have and lose than to not have in the first place" (Hosseni 211).
It hurts more to build a relationship with someone and loose them, rather someone you did not get to know.
3.) “It hurts to say that. But better to get hurt by the truth than comforted
with a lie.” (Hosseni- Baba 58)
This quote is really deep and when I think of relationships this quote comes to mind, people rather someone to be honest with them rather than get blinded with a lie.
4.) “There is a way to be good again" (Hosseni 2).
This quote is basically saying everybody deserves forgivness and that it is always a way to make things right, Amir is returning a favor to Hassan by searching for Sorhab.
5.) "For you A thousand times over" (Hosseni 371).
This quote is said through out the book. First it was said by Hassan when he ran the kite for Amir, then at the ending of the book Amir said it too Hassan's son Sohrab which is very ironic to me.
